My Story

Hi!  My name is Shann.  Not Shannon, or Sharon, or Shawn, or whatever other weird pronunciation you can come up with.  Yes, it is my real name.  I remember in high school a teacher actually asking me that.  I've always loved having a somewhat unique name, so I've tried to give my children the same.

Speaking of children...I have three boys.  They are age 3 and under.  To say I live in a crazy, noisy, dirty house is a bit of an understatement, but for the most part I love it.  Well, I love my boys.  The dirt I could do without.  Even though I love my boys dearly and would not trade them for anything, I've always imagined having a little girl.  I would dress her up, we would go shopping, and we would become best friends, just like me and my mom.  Ah, well.  Maybe we'll go for baby number four.  JUST KIDDING.

I actually would have loved to have another baby had it not been for my last pregnancy.  It was one of the most difficult experiences of my life.  It started out so joyful...we found out twins at 8 weeks (Hurrah!) but then it was all crazy scary after that.  I will dedicate many posts to my pregnancy, birth, and post pregnancy, but for now I will just tell you that I gave birth at 25 weeks 5 days to babies that weighed 1lb 7.5oz and 2lbs 2oz.  They stayed in the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for those of you lucky enough to not know what those initials stand for) for 91 and 93 days.  They are now happy, healthy 1 year olds....but, man oh man that was a heck of an emotional, intense, gut wrenching experience.  I still have post traumatic stress and anxiety from it.

So, another baby is probably not in the cards for me.

What else?  Well, I'm in my mid 30's, and have been married for almost 5 years.  I met my husband on Match.com, something I NEVER would have predicted.  We have our ups and downs like most couples, but the twin pregnancy really took its toll.  I'm sure that will be a subject for many posts as well.

I am currently a stay-at-home mom.  Before babies, I worked as a retail manager, then a recruiting manager.  I have my MBA.  Waaaaay before babies, I was a dancer.  I started in gymnastics when I was little, moved onto Ballet, which is still my favorite, then was introduced to Modern Dance in college.  I've danced in theme parks, for professional sports teams, and for a Modern Dance Company.  One day, I hope to get back in shape and get back on the dance floor.

Besides my love of reality TV, romantic comedies, chick lit, and chocolate, I am an avid shopper.  By avid shopper, I mean shoppoholic.  Clothes, shoes, bags, and jewelry are the most fun, but I can even enjoy myself at the grocery store if I have some good coupons.  I can't pass up a good deal.  Saving money is one of the best feelings.  It's right up there with eating double chocolate brownie ice cream.  Once I got married, most of my shopping efforts were concentrated on things for our home or things for my husband.  Now, I've focused all my powers on my kids.  Clothes, diapers, toys, food, etc. are my new obsessions.  Again, I'm sure many posts will be dedicated to the great deals I've found.

So, that's a little introduction to me.  A little scattered and a little confusing, but you would be scattered and confused if you were as sleep deprived as I am.

I  hope to offer some insight to fetal disease/treatment, prematurity, and anxiety issues, but I also want to have a little fun and talk about my day to day life as well.  If my last pregnancy has tought me one thing, it's that life is completely unpredictable and we need to enjoy as much of it as we can.  We also need to be able to get through the uncomfortable, if it means helping someone else.  I'm still working on it, and I hope you will join me.
